Following last years release of the heavy - hitting Revolt (2013), Hundredth return with its counterpart, Resist (2014) - a contrasting, yet complimentary approach towards to the band's free minded, open spirited melodic hardcore approach. While Revolt showed listeners the heavier side of Hundredth with savage tracks such as Barren and Free Mind / Open Spirit, Resist offers itself as a unique entity of its own that still manages to channel the intensity and melodic hardcore sound that the band have established as their own. The difference between the two EP's is slight, but like Revolt, shows that Hundredth have matured in both song writing and lyrics, and they know how to hit you where you can feel it. Desolate opener Wake builds the album, instrumentally setting the stage for the remainder of the EP, and acts as an intro for one of the more heavier songs on the album Shelter, allowing it to grow until the songs breaks open.

Shelter is a song that provides a feeling of solace through a comforting melody that compliments Hundredth beautifully, and highlights just how good vocalist Chadwick Johnson's lyricism actually is. Lines such as 'You choose shelter over the storm so you could still smile' - Johnson bluntly addresses the reality that most people choose comfort over change, and the open arms of safety have a greater appeal over the pain that is required for growth and sacrifice. Shelter is one of the best songs on this EP and serves as a strong representation of Hundredth's melodic side with melodic yells, upbeat drum and guitar sections and chilling crowd chants. This is how it should be done. At the heart of the album, the band turn up with some, quite simply, sensational material.

Title track Resist provide listeners with an epiphany to not let your demons get the best of you as if they are simply weighing you down from achieving your full potential in life. However, this distinguished incentive should merely encourage listeners to accept any self awareness of themselves as inspiration to socially progress in order to battle these flaws and insecurities.

These ideals have been articulated through the first released single Demons, which emphasises the 'self awareness' vibe seen throughout the EP. From the lyrics 'No - one can save me, but myself', Johnson reiterates that nothing is ever as band as we think it is, and offers this message as a light to banish your darkest thoughts. The lyrical content and vocals are some of the most emotional and hardest hitting you'll hear on a record this year, with Hundredth offering up unparalleled lyrics that make Resist so good to listen to.

'Fear is the foundation of my insecurities; the roots of my anger and hostility are despair and agony' expresses a reflective nature, and offers up the idea that the personal demons create a paradox which has an adverse effect on the self - progress of a person, which provides the listener with an outlet which is relatable to those who battle their insecurities on a daily basis. By this point, the listener has a questioning period of reflection in terms of 'have I made the right decision?' And why this would be justified. Manifest links back to Wake and adopts a feeling of realisation, and is easily the most emotional song on the EP.

It opens with light guitar and echoing vocals and generally gives a melancholy atmosphere but takes a different approach before the crescendo and uplifting conclusion. This lyrically is a more positive track with the title of the track being self - explanatory. Following self psychoanalysis, the character has come to the realisation that “Ego and spirit are two separate things, and the world is not the problem, the problem is me” allowing them to move forward as “the end is the beginning”. In conclusion, Resist is a heartwarming follow - up to Revolt that provides the listener with an influencing spirit to be able to overcome any anxieties or uncertainties that could easily weigh down the strongest of hearts. It is an EP that is relatable and breathes life that offers an all embracing attitude for anyone that is searching for something greater than themselves.

Hundredth have tremendously evolved since the When Will We Surrender (2010) era, and their continual growth and commitment to music has paid off with Hundredth proving themselves to be one of the best hardcore bands of this generation.
