He is a house-hold name to millions of listeners who stay awake to his intriguing, interactive, regenerating and stimulating content.

Beekay’s radio profile has risen steadily over the past couple of years, notably from Durban Youth Radio where he was doing a late night show Lovers Nest, weekdays. He then moved to Izwi Lomzansi community radio station where he first did the breakfast show and then later the afternoon drive. He is part of the team that saw this KZN community radio station moving to the number one rank in the province. It is owing to this natural and impeccable talent that Mchunu is now one of the regular-fielded presenters in one of the number one PBS radio stations in the world – Ukhozi FM. His versitility and dynamic nature of personality afford him relevance in all the radio shows regardless of the market segment the show is target to hence he also presents Sibhukuda Kwesimanzonzo; a Thursday late night show from 23h00 – 02h00 as well as Sgiya Ngengoma which is a weekend prime time show with more than 2 million listeners. Aged 38, his life reflects humble beginnings of a boy who started his primary schooling at Mpangeni, Dondotha.

Mchunu’s passion and love for education pushed him to Velangezwi High school kwaMaphumulo. He matriculated at Enhlangwini High School at Ntambanana, Empangeni.

Reflecting the ambitions and achievements of the 21st century youth, Bheka is a born leader who has served in various youth organisations including Presidency in the students representative Council of Durban University of Technology where he completed his National Diploma in Language Practice. His concerns for gaps in rural and urban education pushed him to start KZN Matric Excellence which, based at DUT, is a matric rewriting centre allowing those matriculants wanting to improve their chances of access to tertiary; he is a founder and CEO.
